READING 10

  1. Read the headings in Mark 5:21-43.

  2. Highlight verses 34, 36, 39, and 41 of chapter 5.

  3. Read Mark 5:21-43.

  4. Consider the following questions.

Because of whose faith was the little girl healed? (5:22-23; 5:36)
Because of whose faith was the woman healed? (5:34)
What is the relationship between faith and healing?

FYI: Keep in mind that because of the woman's bleeding, she would have been regarded as "unclean," and she should not have had any contact with people lest she make them unclean too.

In addition to the physical healing, what other gift did Jesus give the woman? (5:34)  If you had to choose between the two, which of these gifts would you take?

Which persons in this story are you most like?

  • Jesus: a healing presence

  • Jairus: someone who pleads for help for others

  • the little girl: 'asleep' if not 'dead'

  • the woman: "She had endured much..., spent all she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse."

  • the disciples: crowd control

  • the crowd: either weeping (5:38) or laughing (5:40)

If you could bring one person back to life, who would it be?
